Finials on the front of the Cathedral

The crane is in front of the Cathedral again. It is lifting workers to the many rusty metal finials atop the church. The men are sanding through the old paint and rust, then painting them white.

The Cathedral is being prepared for a concert, so daily Mass is held down in the basement. Massgoers will get to see the refinished altar and ambo that now match the pews.

Chapel stencilling done

Cindy Webster, the artist who hand painted the rectangular imbrication pattern in the Cathedral, returned to the Chapel of Peace to stencil the walls. She borrowed a pattern from the top floor of the Cathedral's Rectory.

A flooring company installed a hard wood floor in the small sanctuary of the Chapel. We are reusing the raised platform that was previously in the Chapel. This time we have built a small step that goes all the way around the platform to make it easier for the celebrant to move in and out of the sanctuary.

Roofers repaint Clock Faces and begin work on Central Spire

Having finished the smaller two spires, the roofers are busy applying copper shingles to the large central spire. They are refinishing the clock faces and the finials. The newly painted parts of the towers look beautiful. In these photos, you can see the difference between the finial on the left versus the unfinished one on the right
