The Chapel is painted

The walls of the Chapel are painted. The electricians are working on the light cans.

Below is a closeup of the faux finish on the walls.

Lots of progress

Here are the latest photos showing the progress on the roof.

Finishing the First Sprire

The roofers have finished installing the copper shingles on the "flat" part of the roof on the south side. They will presumably begin work on the north side of the church soon.

The crane is in position between the church and the school. The roofers are doing work at the base of the southern little spire. This was the first spire to lose its aluminum and wood, then to get rebuilt in metal. They covered seven of its eight sides in copper before they switched to its twin to the north, which was completely covered in copper first because it was easier for the crane to reach it.

Work continues on an overcast day

The smell of fresh paint is in the air in the Chapel. It's paint .... or primer, or a base coat. The photo shows the color of the paint accurately.

Outside, despite the clouds there is no rain, so the work on the roof continues. The large section of roof on the south side of the Nave is nearly done. The roofers are using the crane to lift the copper shingles. It is much easier than hoisting them by rope or carrying them by hand.

Here are a few photos of the work today. As always, click on a photo for a larger version.

The Chapel's carpet is gone

The carpet in the Chapel was rather tired. It's gone. It looks like the workers are going to remove the tiles from a previous floor too.

The painters have put primer on the walls. After it dries, they will apply a base coat. The color should be a shade darker than the primer and should complement the light brown glass in the windows.

The next step is the overhead lights.

The Chapel's Ceiling

No one would confuse Holy Family's Chapel of Peace with the Sistine Chapel. However, visitors to the Chapel of Peace now have a reason to look up.

The new stamped tin ceiling is in place - mostly. There are a few tiles that have yet to be installed. Several of the already-installed tiles need to be moved around so that they match their neighboring tiles.

The walls have been patched and sanded. They are ready for a fresh coat of paint.

Roofing

All the old aluminum on the south side of the roof over the Nave is gone. The new tar paper is up. Workers are busy attaching the hundred of copper shingles to the roof.
